Jeff Mills - The Sleeper Wakes: the magician of Detroit continues deconstruyendo the Techno

Jeff Mills, The Sleeper Wake

The magicians will always be magicians, that's why they are recognized like the most influential parents of some sounds. Jeff Mills was one of the big figures that went out of the golden age of the Techno of Detroit, where it created a culture in the broadcasting station WJLB, by means of which the listeners learned to love the electronic music; especially, for the work of mythical The Electrifying Mojo.

Today The Wizard counts with 46 years. With the world recognition as one of the biggest of the history of the electronics and with the freedom of performance that his prestige and his desire of keeping on looking for sounds that only seem to arise from his mind. The Sleeper Wakes (2009, Axis) is his last work where the Techno keeps on being this beautiful sound that some of them like Richie Hawtin could treat so well from the area of the Minievil.

Nothing of forces, nothing of sudden movements and of BPMs shot after a frantic rhythm to satisfy to the masses. Mills remains so calmed as always, although after his last adventures in which it has recreated a sound-track for Metropolis of Fritz Lang or for Three Ages of Buster Keaton, without forgetting his projects with the Philharmonic orchestra of Montpellier or the tenth spectacular anniversary of his major breakthrough, ‘The Bells‘ (that appeared for the first time about 1994 but that until 1996, in 12 " Kat Moda EP, was not gathered in an official way), yes that has raised the piston and has offered us spectacular 2009.

In whole eight 12 " and an album in length to do the delights of his followers. The best thing of everything, the fact is that in none of the references him the pulse has trembled and there are big samples of his sonorous speech. In The Sleeper Wakes that of Detroit there leaves the best thing by the beginning, with an initial cut of more than eleven minutes, ‘Eve / Crab Nebula’, split into two part close, and for the final straight line, from ‘Diametric‘, where it turns the union between pronounced base and beats sharper on her.

The part of the way is the one that pays less attention to me in comparison to the rest, which does not remove to that support a good level. The anxiety of ‘Radiation Storm‘ and such sudden bridges the careerist ‘Burn Off / Approaching Europe / Docking Procedure’ they are not equal to the taste for the minimalism in ‘Satellite Retrieval / The Occurrence’ or ‘From Beyond The Star’, proper of this Techno of Detroit that was coming from another galaxy and had in the Funk his starting point.

Hypersonic he votes for 7,85 The Sleeper Wakes is a notable album of Jeff Mills, to which like good artist of electronics that is, the big tracks are his most suitable context to two or three topics maximum for face, where surely that there would have been eliminated some of the mentioned cuts and we would be speaking about another incredible piece again. But a notable one for The Wizard there are strong words. They would like already to many of the new artists to sign only one topic of here present.
